Shares crash to 10-week low


The bearish run at the Colombo Stock Exchange extended for the fourth consecutive session on Thursday (7), as the benchmark index slipped to a more than 10-week low on a lower turnover despite continued foreign entry into the Colombo Bourse.

The benchmark All Share Price Index, which started the day at 7,117.35 points on Thursday (7), slipped 0.84 per cent (59.49 points) to close the day at 7,057.86 points.

The S&P SL20, representing the top 20 companies traded on Colombo Bourse, which started at 2,247.04 points, slipped 0.80 per cent (18.05 points) to close at 2,228.99 points.

The Colombo Stock Exchange saw a daily turnover of Rs 791 million on Thursday (7), lower than Rs 982 million recorded the previous day.

The Colombo Bourse witnessed a foreign inflow worth Rs 182 million on Thursday (7) as foreigners purchased shares worth Rs 190 million, as against sales of Rs 8 million. 

More than 42.8 million shares changed hands on Thursday (7), during 11,152 trades that took place.

Shares of more than 247 companies were traded during the day, of which 123 emerged as losers comfortably ahead of 56 winners.
