Seven suspects arrested over Galle fuel station murder


A group of seven suspects was arrested in connection with the killing of a 25-year-old individual at a fuel shed in Maggala, Galle last evening (07).

Accordingly, seven males, including the two main suspects, identified as area residents, were arrested by the Galle Harbour Police a short while ago, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa confirmed.

The arrestees are expected to be produced in court tomorrow (09), he added.

Earlier, a car, a three-wheeler and a motorcycle believed to be related to the incident were taken into custody by Police.

The deceased is believed to have been visiting a friend, who was in the queue for fuel, along with his (the deceased’s) brother and sister-in-law.

The clash had taken place upon the group’s return from dinner, when they found out that another car had parked ahead of theirs in the queue.

Upon questioning the driver of the vehicle parked ahead, he had attacked the group with a sharp object, injuring the deceased, his brother and two others.

The deceased and the injured were rushed to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital following the incident, however, he was later pronounced dead at 12.56 a.m. this morning.

Three others are currently receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
