President, Basil responsible for gas crisis

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa are totally responsible for the prevailing gas crisis, Education Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP), Pubudu Jayagoda said.

He said a company named OQ Trading was providing gas to Litro Gas Company and the President made the Litro Company discontinue the tender in 2021. He also alleged that the President ordered the gas tender should be given to Avant Garde Company.

Speaking to the Media yesterday (7) Jayagoda alleged the President and former Finance Minister’s interference in the gas industry caused the gas shortage in the country.

He emphasised that the ability to receive gas for three years without any inconveniences was arbitrarily violated and finally the rulers tried to steal money by importing gas through Avant Garde Company.

“Gas was imported by a company named OQ Trading. It was a three-year tender. It was violated. The gas shortage arose due to this issue. However, again the tender has been given to OQ Trading after the President failed in his efforts,” he said.

He said the rulers are trying to steal money even amid a crisis. He said Litro had a deposit of Rs 20 million at the end of 2019, however at present they are Rs 10 billion in debt.

“The people are in distress. They are suffering in queues for days. However, these rulers are insensitive,” he stressed.
