Ceylon Today reliably learns that part of the Galle Fort close to Kodigala had begun to cave in.
On being notified of it, officials from the Galle Heritage Foundation (GHF) had cordoned off the area to prevent the public from converging on the site.
When contacted, GHF Head, Parakrama Dahanayake said they have already identified the part of the Fort which had caved in.
He added that the caved in part of the Fort will promptly be reconstructed with the support of officials from the Archaeology Department and added that the public has been informed not to visit the area till renovation is complete.
