Get on to the streets tomorrow, Defy the dictatorship – Premadasa

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa has urged all persons to ‘get on to the streets and defy the dictatorship’ tomorrow (09), despite the ongoing police curfew.

Taking to Twitter, Premadasa noted that the police curfew being declared is ‘a fraud’ and is ‘illegal’, and called on all citizens to unite and ‘make democracy victorious’.

Several others, including the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) and MP M.A Sumanthiran, condemned the ongoing police curfew, adding that it was imposed only to stifle the citizen’s rights, with no actual legal provisions to support it.

A police curfew was declared at 09:00 PM today (08), in Nugegoda, Mt. Lavinia, Kelaniya and Negombo and the North, South and Central divisions of Colombo.

The directive was issued hours ahead of the mass anti-government protests scheduled to take place tomorrow (09).
