Fairfirst Insurance take on Maliban Biscuits

Fairfirst Insurance and Maliban Biscuits, playing MCA white ball/coloured clothing cricket for the first time, will clash in the 2nd National Development Bank (NDB) sponsored, MCA Premier League 2022 Final, this Saturday, 9 July, at the MCA grounds, commencing 10:00 a.m.

This is a rare achievement by Fairfirst Insurance, participating in two divisions in the same season, and also sponsoring the MCA ‘F’ Division at the same time.

Fairfirst played in the MCA ‘E’ Division 30 over League Tournament earlier this year and finished runners –up, and immediately switched from matting to turf to play in the MCA 2nd league.

It was a bold move taken by Maliban Biscuits too to make a frog leap from ‘D’ Division (matting), which they won in 2020.

Two outstanding all rounders, Anuk Fernando from Fairfirst Insurance and Tarindu Siriwardena from Maliban Biscuits, will take centre stage in Saturday’s final.

Anuk Fernando switched into top gear in the knock-out stage, missing out on two centuries, 99 not out in 107 balls, inclusive of 2 sixes and 4 fours vs DFCC Bank in the quarter-finals; and 91 in 78 balls, inclusive of 7 sixes and 5 fours vs Commercial Bank ‘A’ in the semi-finals.

So far, Anuk has accumulated 316 runs in 5 innings with 5 half centuries, 2 not outs & bagged 7 wickets for 167 runs in 28.3 overs.

Maliban captain and opening batter Tharindu Siriwardena has scored 2 centuries, 103 vs Std. Chartered Bank in the league stage, and carried his bat out after scoring 113 not out in 128 balls, inclusive of 6 fours vs Softlogic Holdings in the quarter-finals. So far, Tharindu has piled up 416 runs in 7 innings (2 centuries and 2 half centuries, 2 not outs, Avg. 83.2) and bagged 11 wickets for 174 runs in 52 overs.
