Call CPC & myself before COPE – Kanchana Wijesekera

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has requested that the Committee of Public Enterprises (COPE) summon both him and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).

Taking to Twitter, Wijesekera requested COPE Chairman Prof. Charitha Herath to summon both himself and CPC, to inquire into the recent allegations made by the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, Janaka Ratnayake.

During yesterday’s COPE meeting, Ratnayake made a statement that petrol and diesel could be sold at approximately Rs.250, as shown by statistics.

He further revealed that since 01 July, the Government has been collecting a tax of Rs.280 per litre of diesel being imported.

Thus, “Inquiry should be held on if the COPE & the Public was misled by PUCSL Chairman or CPC on fuel pricing & any other matter”, Wijesekera said in this regard.
