Bakeries face imminent closure – ACBOA

The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association (ACBOA) said the bakery industry will collapse in two to three days.

Speaking to the Media yesterday (7), ACBOA Chairman, N.K. Jayawardana said 50 per cent of bakeries have been shuttered. He added that it is not possible to obtain anything required for bakery production.

“The Prime Minister, the Power and Energy Minister, the Trade Minister, and everyone else have been informed about this fuel issue for about a month. But there is no response to this date. I feel the bakery industry is an essential service. As of today, no one has prepared any programme to provide fuel to bakeries. The bakery owner is completely helpless and abandoned,” he added.

Jayawardana requested that the Government and relevant ministers take immediate action in this regard.
