Anuradhapura doctor remanded


Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Nalaka Jayasuriya, yesterday (7), remanded till 19 July, a doctor, who was arrested by the Anuradhapura Police, on charges of possessing of 2,270 milligrams of narcotics.

The Police had arrested the suspect while he was transporting the stock of narcotics in a van. The Court also ordered the Police to submit a progress report at the next hearing.

The suspect was identified as M.S. Mohammad Jabbar, who operated a private dispensary in Anuradhapura town. The Police told the Court that their investigation had shown that the suspect had engaged in his racket over a period of time and added that further investigations are underway.

They informed the Chief Magistrate that the suspect had been previously arrested by them and produced in Court on charges of carrying out illegal abortions.
