350,000 youth with no future plans – Ranasinghe

Minister of Irrigation, Youth Affairs and Sports Roshan Ranasinghe said close to 350,000 youths continue to languish annually with no clear plans for their future.

He said around 45,000 youths qualify to enter university, and of that number 35,000 tend to head overseas for higher education thanks to the solid economic background of their parents.

The Minister said this during an event held to hand over appointment letters to the new management of the National Youth Council (NYC) on 6 July.

Ranasinghe added that the NYC would have the onerous task of catering to around 500,000 youths each year in the country.
