The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) asserted that a video circulating on social media instructing JVP party members to join a protest with a petrol bomb on 9 July is entirely fabricated.
He said a highly dangerous video has been circulating on social media since 5 July. “The video shows an individual claiming to be from the JVP instructing party members on how to make a petrol bomb. It claims that my instructions are to strap bombs and raid the President’s office on 9 July to oust the President, and that I will be appointed to the office of President after the President’s ouster,” JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.
He told media at the JVP headquarters yesterday (6) the video is trying to send a message that there are plans to escalate public protests into bomb attacks with plans to kill and that the JVP is guiding them.
He claimed the Government is planning a dangerous, cowardly and murderous plan. He went on to say that leaders in numerous countries around the world have sometimes carried out such murderous conspiracies. Dissanayake also claimed that conspiratorial and defamatory acts are being planned against political movements to intimidate the people’s righteous uprisings.
“If the CID cannot locate facts about this video, we have a reasonable suspicion that it is the government’s work. It has been established that Gotabaya-Ranil is involved in a sophisticated conspiracy. If this is not a Government-produced video, the identity of the person who made and shared it on social media should be made public. We urge Gotabaya’s Government not to respond to the legitimate questions of the people with such ridiculous and fatal actions,” he emphasised.
“Neither we nor struggling businesses or individuals need a conflict to create this kind of situation. We have emphasised on many occasions that protests should be peaceful as possible,” he asserted.
He urged the public to act very peacefully in the upcoming agitations. “It has been shown that the Government is preparing for cowardly and bloody conspiracies. The JVP urges the President and Prime Minister to listen to the voice of the people and leave without engaging in such petty and childish conspiracies.”
In response to a question about Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s statement in Parliament on his willingness to step down to allow Dissanayake to implement his economic plans, the JVP Leader said, “Yes I am ready to take up the task. The President and PM must resign before that.”
