Bakeer Markar presents three Private Member Bills

SJB MP Imthiaz Bakeer Markar presented three Private Member Bills to Parliament yesterday (6) to increase youth representation in Parliament, Provincial Councils and Local Government bodies.

He presented amendments to the Parliamentary Elections Act, No. 1 of 1981, Provincial Councils Elections Act No. 2 of 1988, and the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance.

Presenting the Bills, Markar said his intention is to remove the legal barriers for youth over 35 to represent the above institutions.

He proposed that at least 1/4 of the candidate lists of political parties and independent groups for Parliamentary Election should be youths, while the District lists too should contain at least 1/4 of youths.

The same quota should be applicable for Provincial Councils and Local Government Elections as well, the MP said.
