Jumbo images on social media fake – Amaraweera

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Mahinda Amaraweera said, images of the elephant that collided with veteran actor Jackson Anthony’s vehicle circulating on social media are fake.

He said, the wild elephant involved in the accident had been struck and had collapsed on the vehicle, and that three teams had been deployed to find it.

He also said images circulating on social media are of an elephant struck by a train in India, and that no injured elephant has been found by the teams.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet Media briefing yesterday (5), he said no reports of an elephant with serious injuries had been received.

“The wild elephant that collided with Anthony’s car is yet to be found. The Wildlife Department has dispatched three teams to investigate and report on this. So far, no injured elephants have been found. This elephant, we believe, is safe. So far, some information has been received. Our officials are travelling along that route, and no danger to the elephant has been reported. A photo of an injured elephant that was hit by a train in India is circulating on social media,” he said.
