Navy chases trespassing Indian fishers, seizes one boat


Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) chased away several Indian trawlers that was poaching in northern waters and seizing another on Sunday (2).

Having spotted a cluster of Indian trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Point Pedro  close to the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL),  SLN deployed a fast attack craft of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla (4FAF), attached to the Northern Naval Command to chase away the vessels. In this operation, SLN also seized an Indian trawler with 12 Indian fishermen together with their catch and fishing gear.

The seized trawler and fishermen were escorted to Kankesanturai Harbour and arrangements are currently underway to hand them over to the Fisheries Inspector of Jaffna, through the Sri Lanka Coastguard, for legal action.
