Minister of Ports, Civil Aviation and Shipping Nimal Siripala de Silva has instructed the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) officials to handover buildings belonging to the SLPA, situated at Grandpass, to the Mahapola Training Centre (MTC).
The buildings had previously been utilised for in-house treatment of SLPA workers who had contracted Covid-19 during the spread of the pandemic.
During a recent discussion, trade union representatives had pointed out to Minister de Silva that not utilising the buildings for valuable work would be a waste of funds incurred on its construction as currently the spread of the pandemic has been curbed in the country.
They had therefore urged the Minister to use the buildings for meaningful work and he has advised SLPA officials to hand over the building to the MTC.
However, the Minister has advised SLPA officials to maintain the dormitory constructed for SLPA workers and to provide its access to those arriving at the Colombo Port from overseas.
