The Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar, yesterday (4) fixed 21 July to take up the first CBSL Treasury Bonds auction scam case, against Ex-Governor of the CBSL Arjuna Mahendran and nine others, who have been charged with causing a loss of Rs 688 million to the State.
The case was called before a High Court Bench comprising Judges Champa Rajaratne and Namal Balalle.
The defence had previously filed initial objections pertaining to the trial, stating that it is contrary to the law to further maintain the lawsuit against them.
When the case was taken up yesterday, Senior State Counsel Udara Karunathileke, prosecuting on behalf of the Attorney General’s Department, produced written submissions to the Court, related to initial objections raised by the defence.
Later the Court ordered the defence, if they have any clarifications connected to submissions produced by the prosecution, to submitted it at the next hearing.
The AG has indicted 10 accused, including Mahendran before the Colombo High Court, on the aforesaid charges, which had taken place during the first CBSL Treasury Bonds auction on 27 February, seven years ago.
