The prevailing windy conditions are expected to intensify further till 4 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, 5 July), in the western and southern sea areas and in the southern half of the island, due to the active Southwest Monsoon condition, the Met Department yesterday (3) said.
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, it said. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm may occur at some places in Sabaragamuwa province and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Hambantota district during the afternoon or night, the Met. Department added.
Strong winds about (50-60) kmph can be expected at times in the western slopes of the Central hills, Western, Southern and North-Western provinces. Temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers will occur, it further warned.
