The country’s water supply might be disrupted due to the fuel crisis, Secretary of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB), Upali Rathnayake said.
Speaking to the Media yesterday (3), he said Water Board employees will not be able to attend to emergency breakdowns and other essential maintenance due to the fuel shortage.
“Water purification units and pumping stations are not on the roadside. They are found in lakes and rivers. You have to go a long way on side roads to approach those. Therefore, if there are no public transport services, if we can’t get fuel for our private vehicles, we won’t be able to come to work next week. Therefore, the water supply would be disrupted,” he stressed.
He also said, the fuel crisis is a result of poor management. He added that Water Board employees are ready to stand up against the Government and start token strikes.
