The public in the Eastern Province requested Minister of Investment Promotion Dhammika Perera to set up regional offices of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in the Eastern Province as well.
This is because obtaining passports has now become a burden for the public, especially the youth who seek foreign employment in the face of the crisis.
They point out that it is necessary to expand the service of the Immigration and Emigration Department by setting up more regional centres as soon as possible
The increasing number of applicants for passports face immense hardships in travelling to the Colombo Head Office and other regional centres.
Due to the financial crisis, all of them are facing untold hardships in paying for food, stationery, and accommodation.
Therefore, the public urge the Minister to set up a regional office.
