Schools to remain shut this week

Due to the present fuel crisis, the Education Ministry has decided to close all Government and State-approved private schools this week as well.

According to the Ministry, the school time missed this week will be made up during the next school term vacation.

These decisions were made yesterday (3) during a Zoom meeting with Education Ministry officials, Provincial Education Secretaries, and Provincial Education Directors.

Following the failure of the Minister of Power and Energy to provide adequate fuel to run school transport services, the Ministry of Education decided not to conduct academic activities in schools in the Western Province and adjoining towns, as well as schools in the main cities of other provinces, during the week beginning from 27 June till 1 July.

Students and teachers were advised that if they do not have transportation issues, schools will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays till 1 July.

Teachers who are unable to attend school on certain days due to transportation issues have also been reminded not to register as private holidays. If there is a problem with the operation of schools during that week, the Provincial Secretaries of Education and Provincial Directors of Education will notify the Governors of the Province and direct them to take appropriate action.
