Sanudula wins Queens chess title


Sanudula Dahamdi of Musaeus College won the 1600-1799 Rating Category event at the Queens Chess Festival Blitz Chess Championships 2022 conducted by FIDE Women’s Commission.

Sanudula won 6 games, drew 2 and lost 1 to score 7 points out of 9 games to win the Gold Medal. She won against Pasipanodya Valentine (ZIM), Jimenez Salas Maria Teresa (PER), Davari Sara (Iran), Lampard Alice (Scotland), Castillo Beitia Ashley Alexandra (Panama), Orbe Vivero Veronica Priscila (Ecuador), drew with H.G. Pragnya (India) and Vicze Zsofia (Austria) and lost to Stadlinger Lea (Austria).

For her fine performance, FIDE has offered her the opportunity of witnessing the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 which starts on 27 July in India.

The Championships was conducted by the Women Commission of FIDE for the 2nd consecutive year in 4 rating categories – Under 1600, 1600-1799, 1800-1999, 2000-2200 – from 5 to 26 June in the Tornelo Platform.

1,400 players worldwide participated in the event in all 4 categories, which was organized as 4 continental Championships – Africa, America, Asia and Europe. The top three players of each continent played a round robin event in the finals. 19 players from Sri Lanka participated in the qualification events.    (IR)
