Kanchana slams PUCSL

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera slammed the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) for not acting as a regulatory body and instead only announcing and approving power outages.

He said, the PUCSL was not a newly-established regulatory body, despite the fact that ministers of power and energy are frequently appointed. He said, the PUCSL is now approving any power cuts proposed by the Ceylon Electricity Board.

“The PUCSL has to ensure that the power supply to the people is maintained. They should find out why the power outages are occurring. They should investigate why projects that were set up to provide uninterrupted power supply have been halted. That is what the PUCSL was set up for,” he said.

He also said the Ceylon Electricity Board has not paid its suppliers.

Meanwhile, the PUCSL announced rolling power interruptions scheduled for 4 and 5 July. Power cuts imposed on 4 and 5 July are for Groups ABCDEFGHIJKLPQRSTUVW: One hour and 40 minutes during daytime/ One hour and 20 minutes during night.

Group C: Two hours and 30 minutes between 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

Groups MNOXYZ: Three hours between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
