Gold smuggling bid thwarted


An attempt to smuggle into the country a stock of gold worth over Rs 47 million was thwarted by the Sri Lankan Customs.

The contraband was brought in by a Sri Lankan passenger who arrived on a Fly Dubai flight number FZ659 on 2 July. The stock of gold was in 16 biscuits and four pieces of boiled gold and the total weight was found to be more than 2Kg. The gold was confiscated and the suspect find Rs 50,000.
