Galle doctors call off TU action


The trade union action carried out by doctors in Galle, after some doctors who were queuing at Galle Fort fuel shed were attacked, was called off on 2 July, according to the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), Galle District.

This incident had occurred on 1 July when doctors were queuing to get fuel, as the Government had announced that health sector officials would get fuel on this date.

After the incident, the GMOA, Galle District held a Media briefing at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Galle to explain the incident. Two doctors had lodged a complaint at the Galle Police, stating that they were attacked with a bottle of water and scolded harshly.

Meanwhile, Kilinochchi Police arrested the owner of a business establishment in Karadipokku, Kilinochchi on 2 July for allegedly selling one litre of diesel at Rs 1,000 and one litre of kerosene at Rs 600.

Following a tip-off, a team from Kilinochchi Police raided the establishment and seized 950 litres of kerosene and 800 litres of diesel.  The suspect had hidden the stock of kerosene and diesel in barrels.
