Rajamani Devasagayam has been appointed Head Coach of the Sri Lanka U-20 National Team, while Augustine George will be Assistant Coach and Saman Dayawansa Goalkeeping Coach, FSL said in a press release.
Devasagayam holds an AFC ‘B’ Coaching Certificate. He was the Assistant Coach of the Sri Lanka Men’s Team from 2016-2017 and again in 2021. He also guided Blue Star to the Championship in the inaugural Super League season in 2022.
Augustine George too holds an AFC ‘B’ Coaching Certificate. His coaching career has been with Java Lane from 2012-2015 and again from 2022 onwards. Java Lane were 2013 Division-I champions, and champions of the U-19 Expo Lanka tournament conducted by the City Football League.
Saman Dayawansa holds an AFC ‘B’ Coaching Certificate and an AFC Goalkeeping Coaching Certificate Level-1. He was also the Goalkeeping Coach of the Northern Province Team that was crowned champions in the Ceylon Provincial League 2022. He was the Goalkeeping Coach of the Sri Lanka Men’s National Team (2022), Sri Lanka Women’s Team (2013-2014), Sri Lanka U-19 (2019), and Sri Lanka U-23 team (2021).
Sri Lanka U-20 National Team will take part in the SAFF U-20 Championship 2022 and the AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2023 Qualification tournaments.
SAFF U-20 Championship will take place from 25 July – 5 August 2022 in Bhubaneswar, India, where Sri Lanka will take on India, Bangladesh, Maldives, and Nepal.
Thereafter, the AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2023 Qualification will take place from 14-18 September 2022.
Sri Lanka is drawn in Group E, alongside South Korea, Malaysia, and host Mongolia.
FFSL (Football Federation of Sri Lanka) has appointed the coaching staff to take charge of the above competitions under the guidance of National Team Coaches Andrew Morrison, Keith Stevens, and FIFA World Cup Legend Tim Cahill, who will provide the technical supervision.
FFSL will assign the other supporting staff for the competition as necessary during the preparation period.
