‘Don’t abandon the country’

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa urged Sri Lankan intellectuals not to abandon the country at a time when it is in a huge crisis.

He further appealed for them to help him rebuild the country.

Speaking to Samagi Jana Balawegaya youth professionals, Premadasa added that the intellectuals should join a new coalition with a correct vision consisting of a majority in Parliament with labour, intelligence, knowledge, and competencies to build the country in the next five years.

“The present crisis is much more complex than the interpretation of the President and the Government and even the caretakers have abused their power and hyperinflation and unemployment have occurred as a result,” he added.

“People’s dreams have been shattered,” he further said.

Citing the example of Rwanda, which lost nearly 800,000 lives due to fierce tribal wars, he said it is presently the ‘Singapore of Africa’ because of the correct decisions taken by the country’s rulers and intellectuals.

Premadasa urged the public not to get caught up in the lies that the majority fell for in 2019.
