Old Kingswoodians Suwanji Madanayake, a player in his mid-fifties, and Rohan Raj Perera, a player in his mid-sixties, all round performance steered Colombo Masters to a 110 runs win over Royal Masters in their Masters 35 overs cricket encounter played in Bandaragama recently.
Suwanji (54) is the first player to score the fastest fifty in Masters Cricket. He scored 50 in 25 balls. Rohan Raj played an elegant innings, stroking a fluent 51* in 38 balls.
Taking first lease of the wicket, Colombo Masters batters Suwanji, Rohan Raj and Shafeek Rahim (72*) scored half centuries. With useful contributions from Tilan Wijesinghe and Suranjith Dharmasena, they went past the 250-mark for the loss of 6 wickets. Gihan Shiromal claimed 2 wickets.
Shezard Nizar (35) and Dharsha Abeywardena (24) were the only two Royal Masters batters who could get into double figures, and were bundled out for 147 in 29.4 overs. It was once again Suwanji and Rohan Raj Perera, along with Thusitha Illangamage who wreaked havoc with the ball, grabbing 3 wickets each.
