Railway Unions launch strike, several trains expected to be delayed

Several railway unions have launched a strike with immediate effect, with several employees abstaining from reporting to work.

A number of employees, including engine drivers, train guards and station masters, joined the strike action on account of their not being able to report to work owing to the ongoing fuel crisis.

Resultantly, several trains leaving the Colombo Fort and Maradana Railway Stations are expected to either be delayed or cancelled, an official at the Colombo Fort Station said.

Earlier today (01), 22 trains, including the Udaya Devi running from Colombo Fort to Batticaloa and the cargo train to Avissawella, were cancelled.
