The Uppuveli Police in Trincomalee said that a 47-year-old woman was killed in a following a mishap with petrol stored inside a prayer room.
According to Police, the incident occurred on 29 June evening in the Anbuvalipuram area of Trincomalee.
Police say that the victim lit a lamp in the prayer room with a wax stick and threw the stick carlessly which ignited a petrol can stored inside, killing the woman.
The body was taken to District General Hospital in Trincomalee and handed over to family members following a death investigation by the hospital coroner. Uppuveli Police are conducting additional investigations.
