Australia deports 46 Lankans

Forty-six (46) Sri Lankans, who had attempted to enter Australia illegally, and had been detained by the Coastal Police of that country, were deported to Colombo on 30 June. The unauthorised travellers are reportedly residents of Chilaw.

BIA sources stated that among the group were two children below five years of age.

The group had been deported by the Australian Coastal Police from the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and they had landed at the BIA last morning.

A group of officials from the Australian High Commission in Colombo had arrived at the BIA to receive the group after which they had been handed over the officers from the Department of Immigration and Emigration at the BIA.

Afterwards they were to be handed over to the CID at the BIA.
