Expect 15-hour power cuts soon – CEB union

General Secretary of the CEB Joint Trade Union Alliance Ranjan Jayalal warned that the power cuts would be increased up to 15 hours per day.

Jayalal said, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation’s fuel reserves are not sufficient to manage the CEB’s workload even for a 24-hour period.

He noted that reserves are so scarce that it is not even enough to meet the current consumer demand.

Therefore, Jayalal stated that it would be impossible for the CEB to prevent long blackouts in the country before long. The trade unionist also alleged the Government had deliberately not included the CEB into the essential services category due to its inability to provide a continuous supply of fuel to the energy sector.
