The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) claimed the public has been further burdened by the increase in fuel prices.

Addressing the media on 27 June, SJB MP Tissa Attanayake noted that as a result of increase in fuel prices, the prices in all the other sectors have been increased.

“The country is going through a devastating period.  This is the fifth time in 2022, the government increased fuel prices. What does the Government intend to achieve through such price hikes,” he queried.

Attanayake said all industries and livelihoods are dependent on fuel.

“Today the cost of living increase in the country is close to 150 per cent. We have the second highest inflation rate in the world. In countries like Pakistan in Asia we are in a bad situation at the moment and the Government is unable to say what the solution is,” he added.

Attanayake added that the public is repeatedly being battered as fuel prices have increased every month since January, apart from March.
