WP schools closed till 1 July

Following the failure of the Minister of Power and Energy to provide adequate fuel to run school transport services, the Ministry of Education decided not to conduct academic activities in schools in the Western Province and adjoining towns, as well as schools in the main cities of other provinces, during the week beginning from today (27) until 1 July.

Students and teachers will be advised that if they do not have transportation issues, schools will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from today to 1 July.

Teachers who are unable to attend school on certain days due to transportation issues have also been reminded not to register as private holidays. If there is a problem with the operation of schools during that week, the Provincial Secretaries of Education and Provincial Directors of Education will notify the Governors of the Province and direct them to take appropriate action.

The Ministry of Education announced in a Media release that if there are any intentions to hold term examinations for the G.C.E. Advanced Level during the week beginning 27 June 2022, teachers should advise pupils that the term examinations will be held two weeks later.

During consultations with Provincial Secretaries of Education, Provincial Directors of Education, and Principals of Urban National Schools, the Ministry of Education put out a Media release on 25 June about school operations from 27 June to 1 July. However, the Ministry of Power and Energy later indicated that fuel distribution won’t be possible starting today.
