Susal wins Gold in Highest Division

Susal de Silva of Nalanda College Colombo won the Gold Medal in the under-18 Open event (highest age group), at the above Chess Championships, when he scored a total of 6 ½ points out of 9 games and remain unbeaten. He won the Championship on better tie breaking points after a five-way tie, and hence, received an International Master Norm instead of the title.

 Dinuwara Seneviratne (U-16 open) of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala, Vinuda Shenal Gunatilake (U-14 open) of Royal College Colombo and B. Janukshan (U-12 open) of Jaffna Hindu College, won Bronze Medals in their respective age groups.

 Dinuwara Senevirathne (U-16 open), Vinuda (U-14 open), and Janukshan (U-12 open) all scored 6 ½ points out of 9 games to with the Bronze medal.

 The Western Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022, conducted by the Asian Chess Federation was organised by the Maldivian Chess Federation from 15 to 23 June at the Island of Ukluhas, Maldives. A total of 9 countries, Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan participated in the event.
