Police warned against opening fuel tanks

The Police Department will take stern action against officers who open the tanks at fuel stations to show the public the available fuel stocks.

IGP C.D. Wickremeratne has issued instructions to Police officers, emphasising that some officers engage in activities that are not assigned to them.

He claimed that opening the fuel tanks at a gas station is solely the responsibility of. the station’s owner and employees. The IGP has stated that Police officers should not interfere with such activities, which should be performed by Ceylon Petroleum Corporation officers and fuel station employees.

He said if Police officers violate the order, disciplinary action will be taken against them. The IGP also stated that Police officers on duty at fuel stations across the island would be informed of this decision.
