Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda assured that steps have been taken to import 300,000 barrels of kerosene from India.
He further said, fishermen as well as farmers in the country, particularly the farmers in the North, have been severely impacted by the prevailing fuel shortage, especially kerosene.
He added that discussions were held with a private company and an agreement was reached to import kerosene from India.
The Minister said he has held discussions with Shipping Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to bring the consignment to Sri Lanka and has obtained approval from the Defence Secretary.
Devananda expressed confidence that a solution can be found to the kerosene shortage.
