Lottery sellers to quit

President of the All Ceylon Lottery Representatives’ Association (ACLRA) Krishantha Marambe says that commencing next Wednesday (29) all lottery sellers and their sales assistants will opt out of the business.

He stated that a total of 48,000 lottery representatives along with 36,000 sales assistants countrywide will stop selling lottery tickets from next week.

Marambe charged that due to the escalating cost of living it had become impossible for them to continue with their trade and lamented that despite constant reminders to Government officials, those pleas for relief had fallen on deaf ears.

He added that even requests made to the Government to provide some sort of fuel concession to lottery sales assistants had also been ignored prompting them to opt out of their trade.

According to the head of the ACLRA a total of 400,000 people engaged in the trade, either directly or indirectly, were facing difficulties due to the country’s current economic downturn.
