Two men detained, JCB loader seized

The Naula Forest Conservation Office (NFCO) said two men and a JCB loader were detained by NFCO Officers on suspicion of damaging land under their control.

One of the two individuals detained allegedly got a lease from the Land Reforms Commission (LRC) for land in Ambana, Welangolla, and Dilyayawatta that was under the control of the Naula Divisional Secretariat, before causing damage to the area.

Among the charges filed against the suspects are, clearing at least half an acre of the Ittegalakanda Forest Reservation, disposal of plants removed from the Forest Reservation, and damaging the Reservation.

According to NFCO officials, as per the election manifesto of the Government, around 28 acres of land owned by the LRC had been leased to a businessman sans any proper Environmental Impact Assessment and they vowed to institute legal action against the suspects over the damage caused to the Forest Reservation.
