India Women started their Sri Lanka tour on a winning note as they beat Sri Lanka women by 34 runs in the first T20 in Dambulla yesterday.
Batting first, India Women made 138 for 6 with Jemimah Rodrigues top scoring with an unbeaten 36, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made 22.
Sri Lanka were given an excellent start by Oshadi Ranasinghe, who claimed the wickets of opener Smriti Mandhana and one down Sabbhineni Meghana in successive deliveries in the 4th over, to leave India Women 17 for 2, before the skipper and Shafali Verma rebuilt the inning.
Skipper Atapattu provided the breakthrough, removing Verma for 31, while skipper Kaur was removed by Inoka Ranaweera who went on to claim three for 30 to put the brakes on the India inning. Rodrigues kept going from the other end with 27delivery 36 which saw three fours and one six.
Sri Lanka were never in the game during the chase. They lost skipper Atapattu for 16 in the 7th over with the score just 27, and the game was as good as over for them. Kavisha Dilhari fought a lone battle scoring an unbeaten 47, but did not receive much support from the other end, and they eventually ended up scoring 104 for 5 in 20 overs

Sri Lanka Cricket will open gates to the public ‘Free-of-Charge’ to witness the Sri Lanka vs India T20I and ODI series. All 3 games of the T20I series will be played at the RDICS, Dambulla.
Accordingly, fans who are keen to witness the balance T20 matches on 25 and 27 June can enter the ground via the main gate of the RDICS, Dambulla, which is situated on the side of the ‘Kurunegala –Dambulla,’ road.
The ODI series of the tour will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on 1, 4 and 7 July.
