Five luxury vehicles that were illegally imported, labelled as used auto parts, were seized by the Customs Rank Container Terminal (RCT) Personal Baggage Examination Unit.
Customs Media Spokesman, Deputy Director (Legal) Sudatta Silva said the vehicles were disassembled and packed in container boxes and tagged under the names of several locals.
“The detection was made following a tip-off received by the Customs Intelligence Unit. During the Customs investigation, five used cars were found in the containers shipped from the UK including a Mercedes-Benz Maybach, Audi A1, a Fiat, and units of BMW cars,” he said.
