Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) MP, former State Minister JeevanThondaman said estate workers have been severely impacted by the prevailing kerosene shortage.
Thondaman said he has written to Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara to distribute sufficient stocks of kerosene to estate workers.
He has stated that the estate community which depended on kerosene and LP gas for household needs have been impacted by shortages.“As they are waiting in line to get kerosene distributed from time to time and LP gas distributed by dealers, estate workers lose out on their one-day employment. Their living standard has also been impacted as a result,” the letter stated.
Thondaman has indicated that arrangements must be made to distribute kerosene to estate workers uninterruptedly while increasing allocations to ascertain the livelihood of estate workers who are contributing to the national economy.
