UNP General Secretary, Palitha Range Bandara, on 21 June, expressed confidence that the board level agreement between the Government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) can be signed by the end of this month.
Range Bandara said signing the board level agreement with the IMF is a great victory at a time when the county has been plunged into a severe economic crisis. “The economic crisis can be resolved to a great extent with IMF assistance,” he added.
Range Bandara was speaking to the Media at Sirikotha.
The UNP General Secretary also said assistance from other countries will increase with IMF assistance. “A sustainable solution is required for the prevailing gas, fuel, medicine, and food crisis,” he added.
He said the economic downturn cannot be resolved without assistance from the international community. Since the 21st Amendment was put forward, countries have stepped up support. Australia and USA have also started extending financial assistance.
He added that SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva had claimed that without forming an All Party Government, Sri Lanka would not receive foreign aid. “The Australian Government donated US$ 50 million a day after this statement,” he said.
“The 21st Amendment will be tabled in Parliament to restore democracy. The SJB and JVP boycotting Parliament at such a crucial time is unethical,” Range Bandara further said.
