The head of the National Authority for Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) Dr. Samadhi Rajapaksa said the government should review its decision to grant licences for soft liquor for medium-scale guest houses and inns.
She said the Government should formulate necessary guidelines prior to granting licenses to such institutions.
Dr. Rajapaksa said how soft liquor is categorised will be vital in this exercise as it will have an impact on nearly 4000 medium scale guest houses and tourist Inns island-wide.
She added that though this measure has been taken to attract tourists and increase its foreign reserves it should be duly monitored to find out its impact on the said institutions as there has been a new tendency among most tourists to be vegetarian and devoid of liquor.
