Business tycoon Dhammika Perera was sworn in as a National List MP of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) before Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday (22).
After being sworn in, he signed the Member Roll in the presence of Secretary-General of Parliament, Dhammika Dasanayake. Perera was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The petitions filed challenging the swearing in of Perera as an MP, were rejected by the Supreme Court on Tuesday (21).
Born on 28 December 1967 in Katukurunda, Kalutara, he is an alumnus of Taxila College, Horana. Perera also holds a National Diploma in Technology (NDT) from the University of Moratuwa.
