Agri Minister asks for 125,000 litres diesel 


Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera requested the Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera to allocate 125,000 litres of diesel to distribute urea fertiliser to farmers for the Yala season.

While Sri Lanka is due to receive 65,000 MT of urea from India on 6 July, Amaraweera noted that the Ministry has initiated a programme to distribute fertiliser throughout the country.

50,000 MT will be provided for paddy cultivation and 10,000 MT for maize cultivation which will be distributed through Agrarian Service Centres, while Lanka Commercial Fertiliser Company and Lanka Fertiliser Company will also distribute the fertiliser using 2,000 lorries.

Amaraweera requested diesel for the programme from 10 July to 15 July. (FT)
