Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amerasinghe yesterday ordered the OIC of the Wilachchiya Police Station and two other Police Officers, to be remanded till 28 June.
He gave this order, after they were arrested and produced in Court on charges of shooting to death a suspect Sadun Lasitha Kumara Vithana, who was to be detained on a Court order, at the Maligawatta Railway Housing Scheme within the Keselwatta Police Division, 13 years ago.
The three suspects were identified as OIC of the Wilachchiya Police Station Police Inspector Illangasinghe, Sub Inspector of the Uppuveli Police Station Ruchira Chandima and Police Sergeant Dayawansa of the Badalgama Police Station respectively.
Keselwatta Police prosecuting told Chief Magistrate Amerasinghe that after submission of case abstracts for the perusal of the AG, the latter had advised them to proceed with a non binding case, having named five suspects including the aforesaid three Police officers.
Accordingly, after the three suspects surrendered to Court, they were ordered to be remanded till the aforesaid date.
Furthermore, besides the three suspects remanded, the AG has named two other suspects in connection with the case.
Among them are former Police Constable Sarathchandra, who has been convicted and sent to death row in the Vaas Gunawardene case and Ex-PC Kelum.
