New airfares between Jaffna, India prohibitive – Jaffna residents

With the opening of the Jaffna International Airport on 1 July, the people of Jaffna expressed concern that they were unable to afford the new airfares between Jaffna and India.

Because of the current economic crisis, a single flight between Jaffna and Trincomalee will cost Rs 40,000, while a flight between Chennai and Jaffna costs Rs 50,000. The people of Jaffna are urging the Government to provide relief to passengers as these airfares were prohibitive. Tickets for these flights will be available beginning yesterday (21). The fare between Jaffna and Chennai was Rs. 26,000 at the time the Jaffna International Airport was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
