Greenlight for Nedunkerny villagers to engage in seaweed collection


Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda gave permission to villagers of Nedunkerny to continue engaging in seaweed collection for the purpose of selling it.

Officials of the Provincial Fisheries Co-operative Society in the area informed Minister Devananda that more than 300 families in the Nedunkerny coastal belt have been collecting seaweed for the purpose of selling.

Officials urged Minister Devananda that if their seaweed harvest was exported, they would be able to earn more than Rs 50,000 per month and improve their living condition.

The Minister also directed officials in the Kilinochchi District to enable people in the Kilinochchi District to obtain additional income to raise their living standard.
