Don’t apply for passports unnecessarily

The Department of Immigration and Emigration has urged the public not to obtain a passport unless absolutely necessary during the crisis in the country.

Controller Immigration and Emigration (Passport) at the Department of Immigration and Emigration Priyantha Hapuarachchi said 350,000 passports had been issued in the last five months alone, with approximately 60,000 going overseas.

He also said the process of issuing passports is three times the daily capacity that can be provided under one-day service, and this cannot be increased further.
