All schools in the Colombo Zone and suburbs, as well as schools in the main cities of other provinces, will be closed from 20 to 24 June.

In a press release, the Ministry of Education stated that all provincial education officials have been granted permission to continue in-person lessons at schools where students, teachers, and principals are not affected by transportation issues.

Even if in-person lessons are provided, schools can provide online lessons for students who are unable to attend.

The Education Ministry announced earlier that all schools within the city limits of Colombo will be closed next week due to transportation issues caused by fuel shortages.

However, it has been decided that all schools in the Colombo Zone and suburbs, as well as schools in other provinces’ main cities, will discontinue in-person lessons beginning next week. Furthermore, all education officials in each province have been given the authority to decide how academic activities at schools in other areas will be carried out during this time.

Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has agreed not to impose power outages weekdays between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the Education Ministry.

Following a review of the progress of the aforementioned measures, the Education Ministry will hold a meeting on 25 June to decide how academic activities at schools will be conducted the following week.
